This web site is, most definitely, a “work in progress.”

The first series of articles presented here is entitled “On the Shoulders of Giants” It deals with the people who have developed the technologies and institutions we now take for granted. These people are, in truth, “Icons of the Information Age.” There will never be an end to this list, of course, and as time goes on the series will expand.

We should point out that these are capsule descriptions – none more than two or three pages in length. Each person certainly deserves more than this, and in fact entire books have been written about each. In these pages we try to answer the questions: who were they; where did they come from; what did they do; and how did they stand on the shoulders of other giants.

Other articles, written in past months and years, will be added. Some of these articles appeared in print (TE&M, Outside Plant Magazine) and some were written in preparation for industry talks and presentations.

As we said, a “work in progress.”
